EARLY DAYS EDUCATION.
Tiny School houses were sprinkled in the remote areas. Most would be forgotten if someone had not taken the photos and recorded the names of each school and the hearty souls that taught and learned in these little one room buildings.

NORWEGIAN SETTLERS. As per Lorraine Nord, Niece of Lawrence Zimmerer. This photograph of the Norwegian settlers was probably taken in the summer of 1901. At the home of Ole T. and Helen Westby, located on the spotted road. 2 miles east of Clayton. Potluck dinners were served to collect money for the Lutheran Church being built across the road from the scene, Following are those identified in the picture. Ida Westby married Calyd G Nolan and they had 11 dhildren, Lorraines Mother Violet was the 4th child. Violet now lives on the next farm north of where this picture was taken and that is where Lorraine (Rainy) was born & raised.
The Church the Nowegian Settlers built:. TRYSIL LUTHERAN CHURCH. --- 2 Miles east of Clayton on Spotted Road. The Church was organized in 1892. The Building was built in 1901.The first child Baptized was William Hansen, Second, Lilly Johnson, and Third -- Harald Westby.
