Then and Now

Then and Now depicts what Father Time has done to or for us as we traveled life's paths. Sixty or 70 years can take its toll, but strangely our features do not always change that much.

Picture
This photo taken in 2007 will have to suffice as both then and now as it's the only picture we have of Mr. Clayton "Art" Stelting. Much has been said about the heroics of his friend Silvio Costa in the Pacific Theater during WW II. Very little has been said about Art Stelting. He was a Marine. He was in almost every landing from Tarawa, Iwo Jima to Guadalcanal and points in between. Art piloted landing craft in every single invasion. He was the target of every big gun the enemy could throw at him. And yet this hero walked away at the end of years of fighting. What does he say about it? "I had the best job in the Marine Corps."

Art Clayton Stelting as a  rather young man. He is seen here sitting on his Mom's lap

Picture
No, this is not James Dean. He was about 20 years of age at this sitting. This is none other than. . . (See below)

Picture
Wally Lee Parker, CDPHS's Editor in Chief while on assignment in Columbia Falls, Montana. He was gathering photos and pertinent information on one of his numerous projects for the CDPHS.

This young man had it all figured out early in life. Shower the teacher with gifts and hope you get the same when you become a teacher. (Which he did!)

Picture
Bill Sebright taught school for 5 years in Redwood City, Cailifornia, one year at Clayton School, and 29 years at Deer Park's Arcadia School. Now highly respected, retired and a RAT club member. (Retired Arcadia Teachers) He is also President of our Historical Society and the Patriarch of the Clayton Sebright clan.

The infant daughter of the Dave Baker family, Catherin. Their farm was very secluded, especially in the dead of winter.

Picture
Catherine Baker Truman went from a desolate farm outside of Clayton, Washington, homesteaded by Scandinavian pioneers, to the outreaches of South America for a life as a Missionary for God. She is now retired and living in Florida with her husband Cliff.

Picture
Robert A. Clouse, the little guy on the right on the home place outside Rocklake, North Dakota, his #1 home town. Bob finished growing up at his #1A hometown, Clayton, Washington. But he went back to Rock Lake where he surprised an old friend who snapped a picture of the moment. Time hasn't been to kind to him but you have to admit, he's happy!

Picture
This cheerful person has brought happiness to many people, including all who have seen this Web Site.  Bob is not only the Web Master, he started this wonderful historical site!  To share in this happiness join us at our monthly meetings.  We meet at the Clayton Drive In, the second Saturday of each month at 9 AM.
